Mary's rustic candles start with a regular pillar candle. Extra wax is melted, whipped, and applied to the pillar - sounds simple, but what a mess, and watch out for that hot wax!! Still, if you like a rustic, country look, I think you'll appreciate the effort!

Candle communiqué . To get the most enjoyment from these, or any, pillar candles:

• Keep wick trimmed to about ¼ inch
• If the wick is flooded, it's ok to pour off some of the excess melted wax. Blow the candle out, and carefully pour wax into the trash.
• For even burning over the life of your candle, you should generally burn a 3" diameter candle for periods of 3-4 hours at a time.
• Never burn candles unattended (you knew that one, right?)
• Watch out for drafts, children & pets
• Candlescapes can be a lovely accent in your home - just be especially careful with the placement of flammable objects on or around the candle
